Psychological testing — also called psychological assessment — are methods used by psychologists to help them better understand a person and their behavior. It is a process of problem solving for many professionals. By using these methods they can try and determine the core components of a person’s psychological or mental health problems, personality, IQ, or some other component. It is also a process that helps identify not just weaknesses of a person, but also their strengths.
Behavioral Medicine Associates uses multiple different methods of behavioral testing to help us determine the best care for our patients
- Traditional Talk therapy
- Talk therapy literally means that the patient “talks” about their issues, problems, dilemmas and traumas with the therapist. Talk therapy is used to work with any problem the patient may have. This type of therapy is often associated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and strongly focuses on developing an ability to “think through’ things and make wise decisions about your life. Behavioral Medicine Associates values insight work, self-realization and self-awareness as tools for growth and healing. Creating positive thought is the answer to much of our anxiety, fear, worry and depression, and we will help the patient make the shift to a happier and more peaceful life.
- Neuro Feedback
- Neuro Feedback, also known as EEG biofeedback is a relatively new technique that focuses on helping a person train themselves to directly affect brain function. It has been discovered as a reputable and scientifically-proven technique practiced by specially-trained psychotherapists. While it does not work overnight and is a gradual therapeutic learning process it has shown tremendous progress in patients with mental disorders, including depression, attention deficit disorder, anxiety, sleep disorders, headaches and migraines, and other emotional issues. It can also be used to help people who have organic brain disorders, such as autism, cerebral palsy and seizures.
